AFF Reassured About Housing Safety For Army families

Following the tragic incident at Grenfell Tower in London, the Army families Federation (AFF) has approached the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO), to clarify whether multi-storey Service Families Accommodation (SFA) features any external cladding, which would potentially present a fire risk.

Safety assured
DIO checked the position of this issue and were able to inform AFF that multi-storey buildings are predominantly brick construction. The external wall insulation used on recent energy efficiency upgrades to military housing has also been confirmed as meeting all relevant building and fire regulations.

AFF Housing Specialist Cat Calder said, “Ensuring the safety of our Army families is paramount and AFF has received assurances of safety from all relevant parties involved. DIO has also advised us that a review will now be carried out of all non-habitable areas such as stairwells, plant rooms and communal areas, to confirm the safety of the Army families living there.”

Contact AFF
If families are at all concerned about safety in their SFA, they should contact housing maintenance and repairs contractor CarillionAmey (CA) directly on 0800 707 6000 or contact AFF’s Housing Specialist Cat Calder on housing@aff.org.uk

Gov.UK - The law on leaving your child home alone

The law doesn’t say an age when you can leave a child on their own, but it’s an offence to leave a child alone if it places them at risk. Use your judgement on how mature your child is before you decide to leave them alone, eg at home or in a car.
  • children under 12 are rarely mature enough to be left alone for a long period of time
  • children under 16 shouldn’t be left alone overnight
  • babies, toddlers and very young children should never be left alone

Parents can be prosecuted if they leave a child unsupervised ‘in a manner likely to cause unnecessary suffering or injury to health

What is Slapped cheek

 Slapped Cheek Rash

After a few days, a distinctive bright red rash on both cheeks (the so-called "slapped cheeks") normally appears, although adults may not get this.

By the time this rash develops, the condition is no longer contagious.

After another few days, a light pink rash may also appear on the chest, stomach, arms and thighs.
This often has a raised, lace-like appearance and may be itchy.

The rashes will normally fade within a week or two, although occasionally the body rash may come and go for a few weeks after the infection has passed.
This can be triggered by exercise, heat, anxiety or stress.
